COMPACT SOLUTIONS FOR LAB-SCALE MULTILAYER FILMS


To support these activities, EUR.EX.MA has developed compact extruders specifically designed for multilayer film research, suitable for R&D laboratories and material development centers. Presented at K 2025, the MICROEX FOIL 3 and MICROEX BLOWN 5 enable testing of flat and blown films using just 2 kg of material. These machines offer full process control and rapid setup, supporting the evaluation of a wide range of structures and formulations. Within a single testing session, users can produce samples with different film architectures and analyze material behavior, integrating recyclates, biopolymers, and additives in multilayer configurations.


MICROEX FOIL 3: BENCHTOP MULTILAYER FLAT FILM EXTRUDER


MICROEX FOIL 3 is a three-extruder benchtop machine designed to produce multilayer flat film samples using a wide range of materials – including rigid materials (PET, PP, PMMA, PC), with thicknesses up to 1 mm. Thanks to the integrated selector in the coextrusion block, operators can rapidly change the layer structure and test various configurations, reaching up to five layers from three extruders. The three-roll calender, featuring hydraulic pressure control and an inclined configuration, improves film optical quality, and reduces surface defects. Extrusion-coating trials can also be performed using the integrated unwinder, replicating complete production processes on a laboratory scale.


MICROEX BLOWN 5: BENCHTOP MULTILAYER BLOWN FILM EXTRUDER


MICROEX BLOWN 5 is a compact five-extruder solution designed to test advanced multilayer blown film structures. Thanks to the natural biaxial orientation of the blown-film process, this machine allows to test formulations under realistic processing conditions and to produce samples suitable for mechanical and barrier evaluations. Compatible with all materials commonly used in blown film (PE, PP, EVOH, PA), it can also process biopolymers, recycled materials, and elastomers. Its compact design, combined with a variable B.U.R., enables the production of tubular film samples with real-time layflat adjustment, allowing researchers to study formulation behavior under different processing conditions even with small batch quantities.
