EUR.EX.LAB - May 15: Inaugural Workshop on Twin-Screw Extruders

5th May 2025

On May 15, EUR.EX.LAB will host a technical workshop designed as a concrete opportunity to delve into some of the most relevant topics for professionals working with twin-screw extruders.

The Evolution of Twin-Screw Extrusion in Today’s Industrial Context

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for increasingly advanced and composite materials. Co-rotating twin-screw extruders, thanks to their superior mixing capabilities and precise control of processing parameters, have become essential tools for ensuring high-quality production of complex materials, while also minimizing energy losses through the distinctive design of their screws. Their importance goes beyond the plastics sector, extending into highly specialized fields such as pharmaceuticals, food production, and chemicals.

New Application Needs and Design Implications

Although twin-screw extrusion is now a well-established technology, the context in which it is applied is constantly evolving. Increasing material complexity, higher quality and performance requirements, and the introduction of new production approaches have raised new operational challenges. In many areas, this has led to a rethinking of traditional methods, renewed focus on often overlooked variables, and the search for more informed, up-to-date solutions.

Workshop for Technical Exchange and Insight

This workshop is therefore intended as a valuable opportunity to technically explore the main challenges and opportunities associated with the use of twin-screw extruders. Special attention will be given to the compatibility between polymeric materials and twin-screw technology, including an expert-led session focused on polymer selection, additive use, and the main issues related to working with recycled and biodegradable materials.
During the day, topics such as compounding, energy optimisation, biopolymer extrusion, emerging technologies for extrusion lines and common operational challenges will also be addressed. A section of the workshop will focus on digitalization and system integration according to Industry 4.0 principles, highlighting the practical impacts on production processes. The program also includes a hands-on session with live laboratory tests, as well as interactive brainstorming sessions and open discussions among participants.

Organizational Details and How to Participate

The workshop offers a concrete opportunity to deepen your knowledge on crucial topics in twin-screw extrusion, exchange ideas with other industry professionals, and observe practical applications and live demonstrations. The event will take place on May 15, 2025, at EUR.EX.LAB.
